Calfee Pot

Calfee Pot
Calf skin over plaster and steel
7′ x 5′ x 18″

Completed shortly before I left California in 1989, this piece was made for an invitational show at the American Craft Museum in New York that was never actually held. It was to have been funded by the Dixie Cup company on the theme of “To Drink”, but funding fell through, and the show was cancelled. HUGE disappointment. Big investment- never shown outside my own display place. Ah! What foolishness is art making!

Here it is in my old gallery, a space adjacent to my studio for a good chunk of the 90’s. I loved that viewers were almost driven to touch it. I spent months making it for the museum show, and enjoyed every minute. I like committed, process-driven pieces.
