Icarus Table

This massive table was one of my first furniture commissions (note the corded phone!), and one of my first forays into carving marble. It’s still in use. I should go visit it and get more recent photos.

Something about the glass top gave rise to the story of Icarus, and I was working closely with a local foundry at the time, gardening a lot, and teaching myself architectural stone carving at the time. Funny how all that came together in this table.

I sculpted all the fruit from wax, so it is clearly hand made, but the feather was an actual feather embedded in the wax master. When the wax was burned out to create the cavity to receive the molten bronze, the feather was burned out too. Another time I get to wish I had been a better photographer.
