After hours I have always created work that had no relation to my commissioned work- this piece is a good example. the owl was a commission for a park that was cancelled due to circumstances that had nothing to do with the park, and the rest just seemed to come together. My grandfather had an original Charlie McCarthy doll, which I inherited and included in this sculpted tableau.

The feet of the puppet are cloven, on the left; unseen in this shot, the puppet on the right is carved to have three feet. I love using the techniques of classical stone carving to poke fun at its traditional funding sources, the Church, Government, and the Rich.

Here the three-legged dummy whispers the secrets of the ages to the wise. The tide listens not. The sleepy dogs wait unfazed. I told a story in form.

Perched on a tree trunk above the weeds, these pieces come together to create a tale (ha) the viewer completes on his/her own. Ambiguity of content is exactly the intent.

With the strong light the letters carved into the body of the owl reveal the feathery intent I intended. Telling stories in stone, with a piano, with a pen or a microphone… I love being the storyteller that I am.

The lighting changes everything… as does the season. I need to post pics of this piece in the winter, covered in ice and snow.

Seen from a different angle on the day of its release into the world, the lack of light speaks volumes about the work schedule around here. Get ‘r dun.

I admitted at the beginning of this web site that I was a lousy photographer but that I am a good carver nonetheless. I submit this shot as evidence.
