This piece stands through all weathers, alive and with the land. These are elements balanced and combined and stacked to last, fragile though they be. The “cape” of sheet lead has been blown off during massive storms, but it remains easily refitted. Last year a major wasp colony was built under the cape. They wouldn’t let anyone within about twenty feet, but outside that radius they didn’t mess with anyone. The next year the wasps abandoned the nest and the piece was reclaimed as safe.

The broken sword is intentional. It was never a whole sword form. Even so, it is a favorite perch of the birds, yearlong, but especially in the winter.

Behind this piece is the Granite Ring, a piece I built myself (with the aid of my forklift, but it was epic, trust me), which is where all our family pets that have passed are buried. The sunflowers say it all.
